The Village of Algonquin, located 47 miles northwest of Chicago, was incorporated in 1890. Algonquin is located in both Kane and McHenry Counties. Major corridors in Algonquin include Randall Road, Route 31 and Route 62. Algonquin is approximately 5 miles north of the Northwest Tollway (I-90) and approximately 30 miles from OÿHare International Airport.

School districts 158 and 300 serve the residents of Algonquin from grades K-12. Two community colleges also serve Algonquin - Elgin Community College and McHenry County College. Both offer an assortment of technical, vocational and 2-year degree programs.
