The Village of Lake in the Hills, located in McHenry County is approximately 8 miles north of I-90 and 35 miles northwest of O'Hare airport. Major corridors in Lake in the Hills include Randall Road and Algonquin Road (Route 62).
Lake in the Hills, as the name implies, actually has 4 lakes. Woods Creek Lake, the largest, has two swimming areas - Indian Trail Beach and Butch Hagele Beach. Goose Lake, Willow Lake and Lake Scott are all shallow lakes. Goose Lake is utilized mainly for fishing while Willow Lake and Lake Scott are wildlife ponds.
The village is also home to the Lake in the Hills Airport. The airport can accommodate light to medium twin-engine planes, and also offers charter and rental services.
The village is serviced by school districts 300, 47, 155 and 158. For higher education, McHenry County College and Elgin Community College are located nearby.
